Sample sentences from James, Reischel (2001), short sentences
wpm = word per minute (1 word = 5 characters)
2) Speedscript, stenography and the ten-finger system
A comparison of a wide range of different text entry methods shows that writing with SpeedScript can be as quick as with a QWERTY (standard typewriter) keyboard, the most common method:
 |
 |
1 SpeedScript* 289 characters per minute 2 QWERTY keyboard (ten-finger system)* 264 characters per minute 3 Fast stenography** 308 characters per minute |
*Unofficial figures: The test person practiced a sample text until they could write it by heart completely fluently using both methods. The object of this experiment was to make a physical comparison (distance moved and time) of writing efficiency.
**In stenography competitions, the text is dictated at the desired speed.
